tBBC Radio Hour: ESPN’s Jon Crispin

There is nobody that enjoys talking college basketball in late February than The Buckeye Battle Cry Radio Hour. Yesterday, we talked Ohio State basketball with tBBC Editor Ken Kohl.

Today, we bring you another great roundball discussion about ESPN and BTN College Basketball Analyst Jon Crispin.tbbc-Radio-Hour-itunes

Crispin, who has called a ton of basketball games this season for ESPN and BTN, stopped by to talk about the gut check time of the season, when teams either play their way in or out of the post season.

Some of the Topics we discussed include:

  • The recent VCU/Richmond game that he broadcasted on Wednesday and the double overtime ending where fouling late in the game played a factor.
  • The coaching, player and competitive parity of the Atlantic 10 conference and just how good some of the teams in the league really are.
  • Who the Best Player Jon has seen play this season.
  • Is there a matchup that could put some fear into Kentucky’s dream of a National title.
  • Where Gonzaga sits in the discussion of potential Number one seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
  • How the B1G is the most competitive conference in the country.
  • The latest talks of the B1G discussing freshman ineligibility.

And Crispin Basketball, the program that he and his brother have built up to help better the game of college basketball.

Plus, so much more.

  • The continuous struggle of the Buckeyes in the post and around the rim.
  • The changing of the rotation and starting lineup by Thad Matta.

  • Who is going to step up as a secondary scoring option for the Buckeyes?
  • Ohio State’s slow start against Michigan and slow starts in general.

tBBC Radio Hour: Signing Day Primer with Jeremy Birmingham

Signing Day is right around the corner and here at The Buckeye Battle Cry Radio Hour, we bring you the best content we can to get you prepared for what could go down on Wednesday when members of the Class of 2015 fax in their letters of intent to various schools across the country to play football for those coaches and universities.tbbc-Radio-Hour-itunes

Ohio State is expected to finish the day with the highest rated class in the Big Ten and a top ten group of recruits across that national spectrum.

Helping us break down what to expect is Jeremy Birmingham, who is one of the if not the most respected Recruiting Analysts out there. The Eleven Warriors recruiting director helps us break down:

  • The 2015 class as a whole and how they can provide depth despite heading to a National Championship team that is loaded at nearly every position
  • Whether or not Cass Tech (MI) running back Mike Weber will stay an Ohio State commit despite a late surge from Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh
  • Where Torrance Gibson fits in this class and how high he ranks among athletes across the country and quarterback and at Wide Receiver
  • Who the “Sleeper” of this class is that could help Urban Meyer and company right away during the 2015 campaign
  • The development of the coaching staff on the recruiting scene and how Kerry Coombs has carved a recruiting road into the state of Michigan
  • How Ed Warinner has impressed recruits and their families with his ability to turn recruits into NFL lineman
  • The likelihood of Porter Gustin signing on the dotted line and faxing over his letter of Intent to Ohio State
  • If there could be a quarterback logjam down the road
  • Who Jeremy’s favorite recruits are that decided to go elsewhere for their education and to play football

Plus, our own MaliBuckeye stops by to talk about the other side of recruiting and what role education and development have in the selections that young men will be making tomorrow.

tBBC Radio Hour: B1G Basketball Mid-Season with Andy Coppens

tbbc-Radio-Hour-itunesThe Buckeye Battle Cry Radio Hour is back this week to talk about B1G Basketball. It’s been a strange season, and joining us to help break it down is our pal Andy Coppens from Talking 10.

Andy and I talk how the league has changed over the last three years and how despite the B1G being down, it’s good that there are four or five freshman that are really talented to help this league grow.

We also break down the latest hoops action and how Wisconsin continues to roll in conference play.  Frank Kaminsky is a candidate for Player of the Year and is well deserving, but Andy believes he should be in talks for National Player of the Year.

Finally, we break down the importance of tonight’s match up with Maryland and Ohio State and how many teams from the B1G will make it to the dance in March.

That and so much more on this episode of The Buckeye Battle Cry Radio Hour

National Championship - Oregon v Ohio State

tBBC Postgame Show: National Champions

What a ride.

There hans’t been and will never be a journey to a national championship quite like the road Ohio State took this season. Adversity, Character, toughness and talent all shined in primetime tonight, as the Ohio State Buckeyes brought home the 8th championship in school history with a 42-20 win over the Oregon Ducks.

Clair and Joe jump on the microphone right after the game to talk about the greatest moment of recent Ohio State football history. They touch on the journey that this team has made and the growth fans have witnessed.

The great coaching staff that has helped mold and mature this team.

This one runs a little off the tracks as you can imagine, as we spilled our guts just moments after the trophy presentation.

tBBC Radio Hour: Sugar Bowl Preview/Buckeye Legends with Mark Rea

It’s a very important week for Buckeye football and you know that tBBC Radio Hour has made it’s way back to the audio arena to help prepare you for the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year’s day against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Helping us do so this week is a very special guest. Buckeye Sports Bulletin Editor Mark Read joins us to talk about Ohio State’s journey to the playoffs and his book, The Legends: Ohio State Buckeyes, the Men, the Deeds, the Consequencestbbc-Radio-Hour-itunes

Our own MaliBuckeye reviewed Mark’s book when it was released in August and hit the nail on the head.

In a new book entitled “The Legends: Ohio State Buckeyes; The Men, The Deeds, The Consequences”, Rea examines the stories of fifty men who made Ohio State football what it is today.

From Coach John Wilce to James Laurinaitis, the timeline of Buckeye football is covered in stories both complementary and revealing.

Rea continued to reveal the stories behind his book during this interview and touches what goes behind making such a great art. I asked Mark specifically about Woody Hayes and what he meant to the blossoming of the football program, who his favorite person to interview during the writing process is, and where the greats of the Tressel era stand in the big picture of Ohio State football.

Mark also helps us break down the big game on New Years Day by touching on the three headed quarterback monster at Ohio State, the growth of Ezekiel Elliot during the season, how important a solid running game is against Alabama, and just how well he thinks the Buckeyes can fare in New Orleans.

Rea also touches on possibly seeing another 10-year War if Michigan officially hires Jim Harbaugh.

That and more is jam-packed into this shortened radio hour.

Clair and I would like to thank you for another great year chocked full of great guests and great fans listening in to the show!

tBBC Radio Hour: Former Buckeye Defensive Back Marlon Kerner

What is up Buckeye Nation? Welcome back to another edition of tBBC Radio Hour.

This week, Mike Doty and Joe Dexter are joined by a very special guest of Buckeye past, as former Ohio State defensive back Marlon Kerner swings by to share his great story.

Kerner, who was part of the Ohio State commitment class of 1991, played a major role for head coach John Cooper’s Buckeyes.tbbc-Radio-Hour-itunes

A quarterback at Brookhaven High School, Kerner committed to Ohio State at defensive back, despite never playing the position at the high school level.

The 3rd round selection of the Buffalo Bills in 1994 shared a ton with us about his football career and the guys he played with.

Kerner told Doty and Dexter about his upbringing and the recruiting process that ended in his commitment to Ohio State.

He also tells us:

  • Who the fastest, strongest and funniest Buckeyes he ever played with were.
  • His experience with John Cooper and where he ranks him among Buckeye coaches
  • How fellow class of 91 DB Walter Taylor could of been the best pro of his Buckeye tenure, but how he gave up fame for family.
  • What it was like playing alongside so many great Buckeyes.
  • His NFL debut against John Elway and the great Bills players that were his teammates.
  • How he feels about the current NCAA Playoff system
  • His special teams plays and interception in 1993 that nearly propelled the Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl

And SO much more.

Thanks again to Marlon Kerner for swinging by, It was a pleasure talking to him.

tBBC Radio Hour: OSU Hoops Legend Kelvin Ransey

It’s not very often that you find yourself talking to a legend.tbbc-Radio-Hour-itunes

We’re joined this week by former Ohio State point guard Kelvin Ransey, who has played with and against some of the best basketball players in college and pro basketball history.

Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Kevin McHale just begin the list of players that the former Macomber High School product has played against.

Yet the true story of the Toledo product isn’t just about who was on the court with him.

Plain and simplyHe might be one of the most underrated player in Buckeye history.

The floor general that Eldon Miller put his trust in from day one is 2nd all-time in field goals made at Ohio State.

His name appears fifth on the school’s all-time scoring list.

More importantly, Ransey was a key cog in putting Buckeye basketball back on the map.

We’re so glad to be able to share the story of the 4th overall pick in the 1980 NBA Draft.

After six seasons in the Association, Kelvin Ransey left on his own terms.  And now for 29 years, instead of assisting his teammates on the court, he’s delivering the word of god.

With the lord as his head coach, Ransey has learned that not only is he a floor general on the court.

He’s a point guard for the congregation and community.

Thanks for listening and as always you can find the show on iTunes. Clair and I will be back tomorrow to prepare you for Penn State and Ohio State on Saturday.
