Per the Cleveland Plain Dealer today, the Ohio State mens basketball team and the University of Connecticut will play a home-and-home series for 2015-2016. The Buckeyes go to UConn on December 12, 2015, while the Huskies come to Columbus December 12, 2016.
Ohio State is 3-1 all-time against UConn, but the two schools haven’t met since 1992.
The series is another step forward for those who are critical of Ohio State’s non conference schedule.
This is good scheduling, in my opinion. Preconference schedules tend not to be very challenging, Michigan State, excluded. This series matches two schools with very rich basketball traditions, so the in-game entertainment will be substantial and the national championship picture could lurk in the background.
This provides additional exposure of B1G athletics into the Northeast. The Conference’s “acquisition” of Rutgers has previously been discussed in various articles, but this basketball contest with northeastern power UConn is a nice step.
