The Hunter Needs Silver Bullet Points

Written September 5th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

Well, given Coach Meyer’s perspective for this season, the soundtrack for today should be pretty obvious. There’s the awesome option, and the Ah!Sum! possibility. Happy Thursday, Buck-aroos!

Heart you, Dee Dee McCall

  • Health Update- According to Coach Meyer, CJ Barnett will be back in action this week against SDSU, and Corey Lindsley will see more time; although the staff will continue to be cautious with his recovery.
  • Back On The Attack? Although he had a good practice today, Bradley Roby has not yet been bumped up to the starter at corner this weekend. Rod Smith, curiously left off the depth chart released on Tuesday, finds himself on several special teams this weekend, which is a pretty good sign.
  • Isn’t That Special- A lot has been made of Ohio State’s practice of having players earn playing time by being a part of Coach Coombs’ charges for a time. If you want to play, prove that you’ve got the heart and passion… I like it, and am hopeful Bri’onte Dunn (who seems to have been singled out this week) will rise to the challenge.
  • Hybrid No More? Coach Meyer mentioned that Dontre Wilson is more of a receiver at this point than a running back.
  • Getting Defensive- San Diego State runs a 3-3-5 Stack Defense, which is a bit different than what the Buckeyes have seen in the past. However, several players mentioned that Buffalo chose a similar look on Saturday, so they feel more prepared. That being said, don’t be surprised to see quite a bit of unorthodox pressure coming from the Aztecs.
  • The Chase- While Ohio State dropped in the AP poll to #3 (I guess beating an FCS school is a good idea, huh NikeU?), they stayed at the #2 slot in the Coaches’ poll.  Oh, and they’re #1 on the Facebook poll… which reminds me; can we be friends? Read More

Silver Bullet Points Has Additional Obligations

Good to be back… although I can always count on the team to hold the fort down for me.  Given the news of the last 24 hours, I was tempted to go with a more “good advice, one week late” soundtrack. Instead, though… may this bring calm to your Wednesday’s wanderings.

Get Ready, Rod, Brionte, Warren, and EzE

  • Watching The Watched Watchmen- No updates this week, but Sammy Silverman has an amazing visual representation of how special this team could be this season.
  • OG Gets Paid- Much kerfuffle was made this week at the announcement of former President E. Gordon Gee’s “retirement package“.  Given the amount of money that he’s raised for the University (and will continue to do so in his new role), I’m perfectly OK with it. However, I also understand the folks who need to write things while eating their HotPockets perspective on this- it is a lot of cash. But seriously… is this even a story if we’re not in the college sports offseason?
  • Ooooo! Shiny!! If you look around the college football landscape, you’ll note that the “trend” in uniform updates is either matte or “chrome” looking helmets. Check out Baylor, Miami of Ohio, and South Carolina if you think I’m off base- not to mention what Rutgers and Indiana and Oregon and others are already doing. “Sure, Mali… but why are you mentioning this in the Ohio State news section?” Well- just call it a hunch, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar for Ohio State during this season, even if it’s a revisit of the great uniforms from last year’s Game.
  • “Like A Real Linebacker”- Cam Williams, tweeting that he’d be wearing #55 next season.
  • Although- There’s nothing wrong with a linebacker wearing #10 either… as today’s graphic indicates: Read More

Silver Bullet Points’ Gots Questions

Written April 17th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

Lotta stuff rattling around the ol’ brainpan the last couple of days… sometimes it’s good to have a bit of distraction from the harshness of our realities. Here’s the song that’s been stuck in my subconscious

Silver Bullet Points Is Recovering Nicely

Written April 3rd, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

After a weekend filled with excitement and disappointment, it’s a bit of a quiet mood at tBBC headquarters. We like baseball, and know that OSU sports are amazing even if not the “got to be on television” variety, but I’d be lying if I didn’t confess that there’s a bit of a let down these days.  Ah well… only two songs possible for today’s soundtrack. Onward.

Buckeye 411

  • Injury Update- As you may have read, Ohio State offensive lineman Antonio Underwood will miss up to 6 months with a torn ACL that he experienced in Spring Practice this week.  There’s significant speculation that he’s going to red-shirt.
  • Fired Up- The other “injury” news from Tuesday was Braxton getting blasted as a part of a scrimmage drill, in spite of the fact that he was wearing a black “no contact” jersey. He spent some time on the turf, but then got up and returned to drills later in the practice. There are reports that he tried to lower his shoulder on a run following his return, and that he approached the defense very heated about being knocked to the ground. After practice, Urban talked about the need to have a competitive spirit and to be the kind of quarter back that “want to go get in a street fight and get after it”.
  • The Stable- Carlos Hyde sat most of the “team” portion of Tuesday’s scrimmage to get the Young Bucks more opportunities. Rod Smith and Brionte Dunn continue to impress, but Warren Ball seems to have not missed a beat by missing last season with a foot injury, and was a highlight for the second straight week.
  • Make Them Pay- Linebacker Armani Reeves took an interception 71 yards in the team portion of practice, but was leveled at the end of his run by Chase Farris.
  • Diamonds In The Rough- The Buckeyes showed a bit of the “diamond” formation that the 49ers have made popular since last season (and that Nebraska gashed OSU with in Lincoln two years ago). Today, Hyde was joined by Smith and Dunn in the backfield in a “broken wishbone” look. Woody would be so proud.
  • Wither The Slot- Jordan Hall is still recovering this spring, so the “slot” position has fallen to Chris Fields.
  • Jonesing- Saturday, Cardale Jones had one of his best practices; enough to make Coach Meyer say that he was confident that Cardale could play Quarterback at Ohio State.  While his accuracy continues to be an adventure, those who saw him in practice said that his running reminded them of a current Raiders QB (No, not Matt Flynn).
  • Manning Up- Coach Meyer had good things to say about Patrick Elflein, who saw time at several positions on the offensive line.
  • Sparing No XSpence- Noah continues to be the defensive lineman that stands out… man, we need to come up with a nickname for him.
  • ‘Preciate It- As you can tell by today’s graphic, something special is in the air for Ohio State Students this week. Here- let Urban tell you about it: Read More
